Memphis Baseball – First Road Win of Season Recap Plus What is Next?  

The Memphis baseball team traveled to Conway, Arkansas, as they would hit the road for the first time in 2023 to take on Central Arkansas University. The Tigers would come away with an 8-6 victory after some late-game runs from the Bears. Memphis is now 7-2 on the season and has a four-game winning streak. We will briefly examine some players who stood out in tonight’s win and what is next for the Tigers. 

Who Stood Out Against The UCA

On Mound

Jake Curtis would get the start for Memphis in his third appearance this season. Curtis would allow two runs, three hits, and strike out one batter in his three innings. To be his first start, Curtis had command today and will be utilized in this role. To relieve Curtis was redshirt freshman Glenn Green III, who would also be making his third appearance for the Tigers season and would throw 2.1 innings. Green would get the win and improve his season record to 2-0 after allowing a solo home run. In the contest, Green would also strike out three while retiring six straight Bears. Green currently has a 2.25 ERA in his four innings of work. Memphis has been playing well to start the 2023 season, and the work by starters and the bullpen have been crucial in this. 

At Plate 

Memphis would explode for five runs in the top of the 2nd, three runs in the 3rd, and one run in the fourth to take the 8-6 win. Memphis has been scoring runs like no other to start the season, and many Tigers are hitting with precision and purpose. Second baseman, Austin Baskin, has been red hot to start the season. Baskim would go 2/4 from the plate with an HR and double, Baskin also now has a season average of .448 {13/29} and has multiple hits in four consecutive games. In today’s game, Baskin would first get the Tigers on the board with a home run over the left field wall to up his tally to his third of the season. Baskin also leads Memphis with a .897 slugging percentage, As a team, Memphis is batting .304 through the first nine games played. Memphis will need these bats and pitchers to continue to play well. 

What is Next On Schedule? 

Memphis will stay on the road as they travel to Thibodaux, Louisiana, to battle Nicholls in a three-game series from Friday through Sunday. The Friday and Saturday games will begin at 6 pm while the Sunday slate will begin at 1 pm.
