Three November Stops Remain, And The LPGA’s Finish Is About More Than Trophies

Pauline Roussin-Bouchard did not win the Maybank Championship. She still left Malaysia having changed the direction of her season. Her tied-third finish moved her to 58th in the Race to CME Globe, according to Golfweek. With the top 60 after The ANNIKA advancing to the CME Group Tour Championship, she is now on the right side of the qualifying line. For the moment.

Three November Stops Remain, And The LPGA’s Finish Is About More Than Trophies

That last part matters. There are still tournaments to play, points to earn and players trying to move into the field. A good week in Malaysia improved her position. It did not settle. That is the next story for the LPGA: the season is winding down, but plenty remains unfinished.

 First, Japan

The TOTO Japan Classic runs November 5–8 at Taiheiyo Club’s Minori Course in Omitama, Ibaraki. The tournament carries a $2.1 million purse and concludes the Asian Swing. It comes immediately after Miyu Yamashita’s successful title defense in Malaysia, where she finished at 22 under and beat Yan Liu by two. For our regular coverage group, the next step is to confirm who is playing. A tournament appearing on the schedule does not mean every player we follow will be there.

That applies to Gaby López, Charley Hull, Lauren Coughlin, Brooke Matthews, Nelly Korda and Yuna Nishimura. Their closing schedules need to be reported individually, not filled in by assumption. Then, the qualifying deadline.

The ANNIKA follows November 12–15 at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, with a listed purse of $3.25 million. When it ends, the CME championship field will be determined. For players around the cutoff, the week is about more than where they finish in one tournament. It determines whether they get another start.

Roussin-Bouchard is the immediate example. Her Malaysia result put her in position to qualify, but the standings can still change around her. That is why a projected spot and a confirmed place must remain two different things.

 Finally, Naples

The CME Group Tour Championship is scheduled for November 19–22 at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Florida. The LPGA lists an $11 million purse.  By then, the field will be set. The conversation will turn from getting there to what players can do with the opportunity. For 4 Star Sports Media, this is also where the season-long reporting needs to come together.

Hull leaves Malaysia with a confirmed top 10. Matthews leaves with a memorable ace and a finish she will want to improve upon. Their results are final. The next assignments are to establish their remaining starts and place those results within the full year. The same standard applies to López, Coughlin, Korda and Nishimura: updated results, confirmed standings and a clear explanation of what their seasons have actually been.

There is another scheduled event after the championship stretch. The Grant Thornton Invitational takes place December 11–13 in Naples. Coughlin and Andrew Novak are listed as the defending winners, although that does not confirm this year’s field or partnerships. For now, the immediate route is Japan, then The ANNIKA, then the CME finale. The calendar is getting shorter. The reporting should get more specific.
