The Big 12 is a quarterback graveyard this summer. Only six starters return from last year. That is a staggering reality. In a massive 16-team league, ten programs are rolling the dice on the most important position in sports. Welcome to the great unknown. Tomorrow, the 2026 Big 12 Media Days kick off.
Big 12 QB Chaos!
The podiums in Frisco will be packed. Coaches will be selling hope to the masses. They will say their transfer portal haul is perfect. They will say their young quarterback is a born leader. Do not buy the hype just yet. Here at 4 Star Sports Media, we look at the tape. We look at the data. We know championships are won under center. Let’s break down the absolute madness of the Big 12 quarterback room.
The Texas Tech Disaster
Texas Tech is facing an absolute nightmare scenario. They brought in Brendan Sorsby from Cincinnati to be their savior. Instead, they got a massive gambling scandal. Sorsby is gone. He was permanently banned by the NCAA for betting on games while at Indiana. He tried to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, but the NFL denied his application. Even the CFL officially banned teams from signing him. Now, Joey McGuire is scrambling. The Red Raiders must turn to Will Hammond. Hammond is a redshirt sophomore recovering from a torn ACL. He suffered the injury late last October. His readiness for Week 1 is completely uncertain. If Hammond cannot play, true freshman Lloyd Jones or Tulsa transfer Kirk Francis will take the snaps. Lubbock is in panic mode.
The Transfer Portal Gambles
While Tech is scrambling, TCU is taking a massive gamble. Sonny Dykes lost Josh Hoover to Indiana. Dykes reached into the FCS ranks for a replacement. He pulled Jaden Craig out of Harvard. Craig threw for 2,869 yards last year. He tossed 25 touchdowns. But the Ivy League is not the Big 12. The speed of the game is wildly different. Defensive linemen are bigger. Defensive backs are much faster. Craig has to prove he belongs quickly. If he struggles, TCU is in deep trouble. The Horned Frogs cannot afford another mediocre season. Dykes is betting his entire reputation on a Harvard man. That is a huge risk in this chaotic conference.
Why Experience Might Not Matter
We talk a lot about veterans in college football. We assume older players win games. The 2026 Big 12 might flip that script. The league is wide open. Traditional power structures are completely gone. Arizona brings back Noah Fifita. Fifita is a proven commodity. He tied for second in the league with 29 passing touchdowns last year. Yet, Arizona faces a brutal schedule. They have to play on the road at BYU, Texas Tech, and Kansas State. Fifita’s experience is great. But it might not be enough to survive that gauntlet. Meanwhile, Houston is trusting Conner Weigman. Willie Fritz is building a monster in Houston. However, true freshman Keisean Henderson is waiting in the wings. If Weigman falters, Fritz will not hesitate to play the top recruit. Experience is a luxury. Talent is a necessity.

Frisco will be full of bold predictions this week. Every coach believes they have the next superstar. The reality is much colder. Half of these quarterbacks will fail. The pressure of the 16-team era is suffocating. Only the truly elite will survive the grind. Keep your eyes on the guys under center. They hold the keys to Arlington. The 2026 season is going to be an absolute bloodbath. Stay tuned to 4 Star Sports Media for every snap. We have you covered.
