Redbirds Travel to Charlotte After Home Series Win Over Iowa

The Memphis Redbirds [ 27-21] won their recent home series against the Iowa Cubs by winning five out of six games at AutoZone Park. This series between old rivals was the first in three years and is the only series to be played in Memphis this season. These two teams will meet in September in Des Moines for a six-game series. The Redbirds closed the series win out behind a 10-5 win on Saturday at AutoZone Park. They concluded the series with a 4-2 victory over the Cubs to move the Redbirds to a record of 3-4 in series closing games.

The Redbirds stole a season-high six bases in the game Saturday with three of the six coming in one inning. In the month of May, the Redbirds have stolen 37 bases which ranks them second in AAA baseball behind Reno who has 38 in May. Conner Capel and Kramer Robertson have snagged 10 each and Ben Deluzio has all his 9 of the seasons coming in this month. Memphis has stolen 55 bases on the season which is 5th in AAA and 3rd in the Intl League West.

The Redbirds love the long ball! Memphis has now smacked 74 dingers this season which is currently leading minor league baseball. Memphis has hit a home run in 38 of 47 games and has hit a home run in seven straight games which is the 3rd longest streak of the season. Memphis has hit 41 solo and 11 have been three-run bombs! The Redbirds were the first professional baseball team to hit 50 dingers and did it in 26 games. In the 21-game stretch since May 6th, Memphis has hit 24 home runs. The Redbirds hope to continue their hot bats on the road. Of the Redbirds’ 74 home runs 45 have come away from AutoZone Park which leads minor league baseball.

Where to Next?


The Redbirds head back to Truist Park in Charlotte to take on the 17-31 Knights. These two teams have met in one series this season in a six-game series in Charlotte from April 12th – 17th and split the early season matchup. The Knights come into this home series with the Redbirds reeling after a road series loss to Durham where the Knights only secured one win in six games. The first game of the series will be tomorrow afternoon from Truist Park with the first pitch at 5:35 pm.

The Redbirds will look to improve their road record of 15-9 and their opening series record of 6-2 so far in 2022. Memphis has a day game record of 9-7 and a night game record of 17-14 this season.
