Memphis Drops Finale In Orlando. What’s Next?

After winning, on Saturday, 3-1, Memphis {19-18,3-6 AAC} baseball would face UCF {20-16, 3-6 AAC} in the rubber match on Sunday morning in Orlando. At the conclusion, the Tigers would fall, 8-6, to the Knights and fall in the series. We will look at the top performers for Memphis today, what the coach had to say post-game, and what is next for the Tigers on the schedule. 

Who Tigers Led The Way Today? 

Will Spears 

Will Spears is a junior from New Orleans, LA, and transferred to Memphis from Delgado Community College. The shortstop would finish 3/4  from the plate on the day, which is a season-high, which would include an in the 4th inning. Spears would get two additional stolen bases today bringing his season total to 5. The first of the game, when he stole third, would lead to Spears scoring to put Memphis up 1-0. On the season, Spears has 18 hits, 7 RBIs, and 6 runs. Additionally, he has 5 doubles and 1 HR with 6 walks and a .207 batting average in 62 at-bats

Austin Baskin 

Austin Baskin, a junior from Covington, TN continued his stellar season today. The right fielder would get his second home run of the series, when he would hit a three-run home run in the fifth,  to put the Tigers up 5-0.  On the season, Baskin has 42 hits,22 runs, and 25 RBIs {Team Leading} so far. Additionally, Baskin has a team-leading 9 doubles, 1 triple, and 16 walks, and is second on the team with 7 home runs, and 29 strikeouts. 

What Did Coach Say? 

Following their loss, on Sunday, head coach, Kerrick Jackson, had the following to say. 

“Frustrating loss for us today,” and  “We have to keep coaching them to be better.” 

What Is Next? 

Memphis will head back home to FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field where they are 11-10 this season. Memphis will welcome Houston for a Friday through Sunday weekend series. The Cougars {20-16, 6-3 AAC} would win their series with South Florida two games to one as they would fall in the final game, 13-2, at home. 

Each game of this series will feature a different promotion. On Friday, they will have a Baseball Movie Game. Saturday will feature Bark In The Park, a Snowcone Saturday, and Pouncers Pals Day. The final game, on Sunday, will be a Sunday Funday with inflatables and post-game base running for the kids in attendance.
