Memphis Baseball Inks Eight New Tigers

On June 30, 2023, the University of Memphis’s Baseball team made an exciting announcement. Head coach Matt Riser revealed that they had successfully recruited eight talented student-athletes for their 2023 class. These individuals hail from eight different states, bringing a diverse range of skills and experiences to the team.

Who Are The New Tigers?

Among the signees, there is a shortstop, a pair of utility players, outfielders, three left-handed pitchers, and two right-handed pitchers. Each player has their own unique strengths and abilities that will contribute to the team’s success on the field.

Michael Bright

One of the signees, Michael Bright, is a skilled shortstop from Lithia Springs, Georgia. He has been ranked as the 28th-best shortstop in the state by Perfect Game and is considered the 152nd-best player overall in Georgia. His exceptional skills and versatility will undoubtedly make him a valuable asset to the team.

Brandon Chorzelewski

Another standout signee is Brandon Chorzelewski, a left-handed pitcher from Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He has been recognized as the 15th-best left-handed pitcher in the state and is ranked among the top 100 players overall. Chorzelewski’s pitching prowess will add depth and strength to the team’s pitching rotation.

Seth Cox

Memphis channeled the legendary Davy Crockett and said ” I will go to Texas” when they lassoed, Seth Cox, a utility player from McKinney, Texas, is another notable addition to the team. Perfect Game has ranked him as the fifth-best first baseman in the state of Texas and the 71st-best player overall. Cox’s impressive performance at Northeast Texas CC, where he hit .342 with six home runs, 32 RBIs, 32 runs scored, and seven steals, showcases his all-around skills on the field.

Malik Harris

West Coast love as Memphis gets, Malik Harris, a utility player from Draper, Utah, is also joining the team. He has been ranked as the sixth-best right-handed pitcher in the state of Utah and the 14th-best player overall. Harris’s pitching abilities will provide the team with additional options and depth in their pitching staff.

William Howell

Memphis would cross into a neighboring state for, William Howell, a right-handed pitcher from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, who is another promising signee. He has been ranked as the eighth-best right-handed pitcher and the 23rd-best player overall in the state. Howell’s strong pitching skills will be a valuable asset to the team’s success.

Ryan Hunter

The Tigers would head south for, Ryan Hunter, an outfielder and left-handed pitcher from Miramar, Florida, brings a unique set of skills to the team. He received an impressive 8.5 grade from Perfect Game and had a successful senior season at Archbishop McCarthy High School, scoring 11 runs and driving in eight. Hunter’s versatility and athleticism will make him a valuable asset to the team.

Brayden Sanders

Memphis would bring in local talent, Brayden Sanders, a right-handed pitcher from Olive Branch, Mississippi, is a highly regarded signee. Perfect Game ranked him as the fourth-best right-handed pitcher and the 10th-best player overall in Mississippi during his high school years. Additionally, he was recognized as the ninth overall JUCO prospect in the Deep South Region for 2022. Sanders’ impressive rankings and potential make him an exciting addition to the team.

Pierre Seals

Lastly, Pierre Seals, an outfielder from Memphis, Tennessee, rounds out the list of signees. He has been ranked as the fifth-best outfielder and the 27th-best overall prospect in the state of Tennessee. Seals had an impressive freshman season at Dyersburg State CC, batting .294 with eight home runs, 36 RBIs, 31 runs, and seven stolen bases.
