On Saturday evening the Memphis Redbirds secured their first series win of the 2022 season with an 11-4 victory over the Durham Bulls. The win was fueled by winning pitcher Johan Oviedo’s strong outing and hot bats from the first baseman Juan Yepez, second baseman Nolan Gorman, and catcher Ivan Herrera’s hot bats.   That victory came in the fifth of the six-game series that will conclude today with a 4:05 first pitch from Durham. The Redbirds are now 13-10 on the season.

Gorman Is on Fire

Nolan Gorman is on fire since starting the season slowly.  He currently has a 16-game hitting streak that leads all professional baseball and leads all baseball in home runs with 11 on the season. Norman is currently ranked as the number 2 prospect for the St. Louis Cardinals organization and is putting the numbers up to prove that rank. His stats on this season are only a .338 batting average, a .390 on-base percentage, and a .811 slugging percentage to name a few. In 19 games this season Gorman has 16 RBIs, 11 HRs, and 2 doubles from the plate. Nolan has hit 4 home runs at the friendly confines of AutoZone Park and 7 on the road in this stretch. Norman was quoted after the 15th hit by saying “I’m not up there thinking about the hone runs.” He later said on the streak “You do have to go up there with blinders on in a way, but I’m just out there trying to improve and with that, the results will take care of themselves. It’s been a good stretch…. a fun stretch.”

As mentioned above the Redbirds will finish this series today in Durham before coming back to Memphis for a home series against the Jumbo Shrimp from Jacksonville. This will be the first meeting this season between the Redbirds and Jumbo Shrimp. The Series will begin Tuesday at AutoZone Park.
