2022 Memphis Football Schedule Breakdown

For Head Coach Ryan Silverfield and the Memphis Tigers, the 2021 football season was not up to standard with their finishing record of 6-6. They look to the 2022 season to get back the seasons prior and have put together a nice schedule for fans to watch. This season’s schedule features an opening road trip to Starkville, home games against conference foes Houston and UCF, a season-ending road trip to Dallas to take on SMU, and much more. How does Memphis rank historically against these teams coming up? Some may surprise you.

 2022 Memphis Football Schedule

Sept 3- Mississippi State – Starkville, MS –

Historically the Bulldogs lead the series with the Tigers 34-11 and have included some legendary games both in Memphis and Starkville.

The last trip to Starkville was in 2010 when the Tigers fell 49-7.

In the most recent meeting in 2021, the Tigers won 31-29 behind an unforgettable punt return by Calvin Austin. This win would snap a 12-game series streak by Mississippi State.

Tiger fans will be able to make a familiar trip to Starkville to begin the season. Tigers got an emotional win in 2021. Can they start 2022 with an SEC road win?

Memphis is 4-15 when traveling to Starkville.

Sept 10 – Navy – Annapolis, MD –

Memphis holds the series lead 4-3.

The most recent game was in 2021 with Memphis winning 35-17 at home behind a strong performance from the Tiger defense.

In the last two seasons of this specific game, the Tigers defense has flipped the switch and locked in from this game on. With this game being early in the season hopefully, history will repeat itself.

Memphis is 1-2 in the series when traveling to Annapolis.

Sept 17 – Arkansas State – Liberty Bowl Stadium –

Memphis leads the series with Arkansas State 31-24-5. The Tigers and Indians/Red Wolves have had some battles in their long history.

Their last meeting from 2021 was a barn burner in Jonesboro that the Tigers pulled out 55-50.

I expect this series to continue to be back and forth in 2022. Arkansas State Head Coach Butch Jones will have his team ready to play coming off a difficult 2021.

Tigers are 23-11-4 at home against Arkansas State.

Sept 24 – North Texas – Liberty Bowl Stadium-

Memphis leads the series with the Mean Green from Denton, Texas 16-4.

The last meeting was the 2003 New Orleans Bowl that Memphis won 27-17.

This will be the first time since 1980 the Mean Green will make the trip to Memphis the 1980 team beat the Tigers 29-10.

Head Coach Seth Littrell has this team in the hunt for Conference USA Championships and will be a big game for both teams.

The Tigers are 8-3 when playing at home in the series.

Oct 1 – Temple – Liberty Bowl Stadium

The Owls lead the series with Memphis 4-3.

In 2021 the Owls defeated Memphis in Philadelphia 34-31.

Memphis won the latest game at home with a 41-29 victory over the Owls in 2020.

Tigers are 2-1 in the series at home.

Oct 7 – Houston – Liberty Bowl Stadium

The Cougars from Houston lead the series with the Tigers 17-13.

The most recent game in 2021 saw Houston win 31-13 at home.

Memphis held a 5-game winning streak in the series before the loss last season including a home win in 2020 30-27 over the Cougars.

The Tigers are an even 8-8 at home in this series.

Oct 17 – East Carolina- Greenville, NC

The Pirates hold the series lead 16-8 over the Tigers.

The most recent game was a 30-29 win by ECU in an OT thriller in Memphis.

In 2020 traveled to Greenville and came away with a 59-41 victory.

Memphis is 3-8 in the series when traveling to Greenville.

Oct 22 – Tulane – New Orleans, LA

Memphis leads the series with the Green Wave from New Orleans 24-13-1.

Memphis would become bowl eligible in front of a home crowd to close 2021 by beating the Green Wave 33-28.

Memphis hopes to avenge the most recent game in New Orleans in 2020 with Tulane winning 35-21.

Memphis is 9-11-1 on the road against the Green Wave.
