Prater Adds Familiar Face To Memphis Softball In Mya Clark

The 2025-26 offseason for the Memphis Tigers Softball program has its first signing. Memphis head coach Trena Prater announced the addition of Mya Clark to the roster, as she has spent the last two seasons with the Iowa Hawkeyes

Clark appeared in three games in her time in Iowa City, Iowa, including her debut at the plate and on the mound, from the plate, in 2024 against Utah, as a pinch hitter, and in 2025, against Tennessee, in the circle for the Hawkeyes.

The redshirt freshman has a unique connection to the Tigers as coach Prater was once a Hawkeye herself. Serving on the staff from 2019 to 2022, Prater was involved in the recruitment of Clark. When speaking on this,  Prater said,  “It is a blessing for life to come full circle and for me to get a chance to be a part of her growth as a young woman on and off the field.”.

The highly recruited right-hander brings versatility to the roster as she can be beneficial in numerous positions. Prater also spoke on this in the announcement from the University.

She will be an asset to our offense, outfield, and pitching staff. I have seen her at her best, and I know that she will be an impact player for us.”

The Memphis Softball program made great strides in the inaugural season under Prater.  Most notable was the wins, 19, which is the most for the Tigers since the 2019 season.  Included in those wins were 5 wins in American Athletic Conference play.  This is the most conference wins for the program since the 2018 season.

Then, we saw the season end on a high note as the Tigers competed in the AAC Softball Conference Tournament. In their opening game, history was again made by the program as they won against UAB for their third-ever game in conference tournament play and first since the 2018 season.

In addition to wins on the field, we saw statistics rise under Prater. The Tigers set top-10 marks in 14 different single-season statistics categories.  In the season high marks, we saw the second most runs scored, 257, as well as top-5 in stolen bases, with 68, doubles, 67, and triples,  with 11 on the season. Not to be outdone was the team in RBIs as they completed the season with 208, as well as 18 sacrifice flies.

Perhaps the most noticeable change besides culture,  attitudes, and positivity was the pitchers in the circle.  For a position that in previous seasons unraveled at a moment’s notice, the team ERA dropped by 1.27, to a 5.20 at season’s end.
