The Northwest Arkansas Naturals return home with a burst of confidence after opening the 2026 season on the road. Despite a rough start in Thursday’s opener, the Naturals took the final two games of the weekend to win the first series of the year over the Wichita Wind Surge. The three games at Equity Bank Park gave fans an early look at a balanced roster that can both score and defend at a high level.

Thursday Recap, Wichita 10, Naturals 6

Opening night belonged to the Wind Surge. Wichita’s lineup came alive behind Ben Ross, who finished the evening with four runs batted in. Ross cleared the bases with a powerful double in the sixth inning and followed it up with a home run in the eighth. Kyle DeBarge and Maddux Houghton both had multi-hit games, driving the offense that produced five extra-base hits.

For the Naturals, Brett Squires opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning, and Dustin Dickerson added a two-run home run in the sixth. Right-hander Ryan Gallagher settled in after the first inning, allowing just one hit over his next three. Gallagher finished with five hits allowed and two earned runs in four and one-third innings of work.

Although the final score leaned heavily toward Wichita, Northwest Arkansas showed signs of quality offense that would resurface later in the weekend.

Friday Recap, Naturals 2, Wichita 1

Friday night’s contest offered a very different tone. The Naturals relied on pitching precision and timely defense to even the series. Left-hander Frank Mozzicato turned in a composed outing, striking out the side in the opening inning and finishing with four strikeouts across four innings. He allowed one run and set the momentum for the bullpen to finish the job.

Hunter Patteson, Zachary Cawyer, and Christian Chamberlain followed and combined for eight more strikeouts. The group held Wichita to one run and five hits, giving the Naturals just enough room to work with.

At the plate, Dustin Dickerson stayed hot, doubling in the first inning and later scoring on a single from Squires. Colton Becker added what turned out to be the winning run in the third, crossing the plate on a passed ball. The Naturals had chances to extend the lead in the middle innings, while Wichita threatened late, but the bullpen held firm to record the first win of the new season.

Saturday Recap, Naturals 9, Wichita 3

The rubber match brought energy from both dugouts, but the Naturals took full control from the middle innings forward. Brett Squires once again led the charge, collecting three runs batted in and launching his first home run of the season. The offense stayed consistent throughout, producing runs in four straight innings.

Wichita scored first when Billy Amick hit a ball to deep left that skipped to the wall, allowing him to circle the bases for an inside-the-park home run. That did not rattle Double A debutant Félix Arronde, who worked four solid innings and allowed just that one run with three strikeouts.

The Naturals got even in the fifth inning when Daniel Vazquez singled to center and later came home on a Jack Pineda double. From there, the bats broke open the game. Carson Roccaforte lifted a sacrifice fly to take the lead, and Squires crushed a long home run over the right field wall to make it 4 to 1.

Relievers Caden Monke, Tommy Molsky, and Oscar Rayo closed things down. Monke earned the win with one and two-thirds innings of work, Molsky tossed a scoreless frame in his Double A debut, and Rayo finished the last two innings to secure the 9 to 3 victory. The Naturals left Wichita with a series win, a balanced lineup, and a pitching staff that looks ready for the challenge of a full season.
