Shane Smith Makes White Sox History With All-Star Selection

We have a history-making day from the Chicago White Sox. No, this is not from a negative perspective, as rookie right-hander Shane Smith has been named to the American League reserve list in the 2025 MLB All-Star Game presented by Mastercard. This game will be played on July 15th at Truist Park in Atlanta.

The 25-year-old is one of two rookies to be named, as he joins Jacob Wilson from the Athletics. In addition, Smith is one of 19 players to earn their first All-Star selection. With his nod, Smith has become the first rookie pitcher in White Sox history to be selected to an All-Star Team and the seventh Sox rookie to be named, first since the 2014 season when first baseman Jose Abreu was selected.

Before the Sunday night selection, we had only seen one player selected to this Midsummer Classic following being selected in the Rule 5 Draft. In 2006, we saw former Memphis Tiger and Florida Marlin, Dan Uggla, selected for an All-Star game, making history as the only player to accomplish this. Smith now joins Uggla in what is quite the accomplishment.

We will have more information on the game and performance from Smith on our podcast network. Stay tuned as we slide into this game and the Home Run Derby.
